About

Hi, I’m Jen, founder of Flower Child Native Gardens. I design gardens that function as living ecosystems—spaces that support pollinators, provide food and shelter for songbirds, and strengthen local biodiversity.
My love of the outdoors began early. Growing up in Southwest Ohio, I spent countless hours exploring riverbeds and forest trails, developing a deep appreciation for the natural world. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Biology and a Master’s degree in Physical Anthropology, and I bring both scientific knowledge and lifelong curiosity to my work.
When I’m not in the garden, you’ll likely find me running, reading, or—most often—on the run trying to keep up with my three teenagers.
The Benefits of Native Plants
Native plants are adapted to our ecoregion’s soil and climate. They do not need fertilizers, pesticides or special irrigation systems.
Native plants increase biodiversity. They provide habitat and food sources for pollinators, songbirds and other local wildlife.
Native plants and their pollinators have special co-evolutionary relationships. Many species would disappear without native plants.
Many native plants have deep root systems that absorb water, help reduce flooding and stabilize soils against erosion.
