About

Flower Child Native Gardens specializes in native plants. My goal is to create gardens that function as ecosystems and will support pollinator populations, create shelter and food sources for songbirds and generally increase local biodiversity.
I have always loved the outdoors. As a child I spent countless hours hiking up and down riverbeds and streams in South West Ohio. I have a BS Environmental Biology, an MA in Physical Anthropology and continue to take classes to keep learning new methods for growing and propagating plants. In my spare time, I volunteer for my Village’s environmental committee and try to keep up with my three teenagers!
The Benefits of Native Plants
Native plants are adapted to our ecoregion’s soil and climate. They do not need fertilizers, pesticides or special irrigation systems.
Native plants increase biodiversity. They provide habitat and food sources for pollinators, songbirds and other local wildlife.
Native plants and their pollinators have special co-evolutionary relationships. Many species would disappear without native plants.
Many native plants have deep root systems that absorb water, can help reduce flooding and that can help stabilize soils against erosion.
